| (1) The place of Nankai University in Tianjin |
Tianjin (Tian1 jin1) is located on the north-east (39N, 117E) of China,
and the average of temperature is about 0 degree in the end of January.
The center of Tianjin is not on the shore. So if you come from the port,
then you need to ride buses or a taxi about 1 hour and a half.
Tianjin is on south-east from Beijing (Bei3 jing1). If you come from Beijing,
then you need to ride a bus or a taxi for 3 hours, or a train for 2 hours,
or a super express train for 30 minites.

Nankai University (Nan2 kai1 Da4 xue2) is on southeast of the center of
Tianjin. We will explain about the way to the place.
Firstly we explain about the location of Nankai University and Tianjin
Station.

Nankai University is on the south side of Tianjin University (Tian1 jin1
Da4 xue2).
On the south side of Nankai University, there is Fukang Road (Fu4 kang1
lu4) and the south gate (Nan2 men2) which is the main gate.
You can see the State of Zhou Enlai (Zhou1 En1 lai2 xiang4) and his word
"Yun3 gong1 yun3 neng2, Ri4 xin1 yue4 yi4".
The main building (Zhu3 lou2) is behind it. On the west of it, you can
find Xingshen building (Xing3 shen1 lou2) which is the Chinese name of
Chern Instisute of Mathematics. The name is coming from Proffesor S. S.
Chern (Chen2 Xing3 shen1) who is famous for Chern class (Chen2 lei4).
The building is also called "Research Institute of Mathematics (Shu4
xue2 yan2 jiu1 zhong1 xin1)".
You cannot enter in the building without your ID card.
There are three other gates such as the east gate (Dong1 men2), the southeast
gate (Xi1 nan2 men2) and the north gate (Bei3 men2).
There are mini buses in the campus. If you lost the way, then we recommend
to ride them and get off at the main building station or the building of
phisics (Wu4 li3 xue2 yuan4) station.
If you enter in the campus from the east gate, then you are on Dazhong
Road (Da4 zhong1 lu4), and please go west along the road.
Then you will reach to Xiaoyin River (Xiao3 yin3 he2), please turn left
(Liyun Road: Li4 yun2 lu4) without acrossing the river, and please turn
left again at the second crossing.
There is Weijin Road (Wei4 jin1 lu4) on the east side of Nankai University.
The nearest bus station from the east gate is Balitai station (Ba1 li3
tai2 zhan4).
About buses, please refer to (6).
To go to Tianjin Station or sightseeing places on the north side, you should
across this wide road. Please take care of cars because there is not a
signal near the east gate.
There is Hongqi Road (Hong2 qi2 lu4) on the west side of Nankai University.
When you come from Beijing by a long distance bus, you will arrive at the
bus terminal along this road. |
(Tianjin Station (Tian1 jin1 zhan4))Tianjin Station is on the north side of Tianjin city and on the northeast of Nankai University. It takes 30 minutes from Balitai station near Nankai University by the 8th route (2 yuan) to Tianjin Station.
We do not recommend to get to Nankai University from the station on foot.
The south side of Tianjin Station has been well-developed.
Both the south and north sides are developing now. The subway station is
under construction. This fact is important when you access from the airport
to the center of the city (cf. (3)).
Now when you go across between both sides, if you have a train ticket,
then you can pass through the station, otherwise you do not have a short
way. We recommend to take a taxi.
The area on the south side of the station is divided into 4 parts such
as A, B, C and D. The bus stations are in the area A which is the west
end of the station. The area A is divided 5 parts such as A1~A5.
The 8th route bus departs from A5 platform.
You can take a taxi under the area A (Chu1 zu1 che1 zai4 ke4 qu1). |

There are three terminals such as the Terminal 1, 2 and 3 (T1, T2, T3).
They are connected by shuttle buses (free).
Since the Terminal 1 is only for domestic flights, you do not arrive here.
The Terminal 3 is the newest one. Most international flights arrive here.
Some international flights arrive at the Terminal 2.
If you buy a ticket from MU or CZ, then you may arrive at the Terminal 2.
We explain how to ride the bus from the Terminal 2 and 3 to Tianjin. |
(From the Terminal 3)The arrival gate is B exit gate on the 2nd floor.
You will find an elevator and an escalator on the left side.
By using one of them, please go down to the 1st floor, and go to
the place near the 3rd exit. The long distance buses (Ji1 chang2 ba1 shi4)
to Tianjin depart from there. You can buy a ticket in front of the exit
(70 yuan). You are asked to Tianjin or Qinhuang dao (Qin2 huang2 dao3)
or Tanggu (Tang2 gu1). Please say "Tian1 jin1".
They depart per 30 minutes from 7:30 to 23:00.
So you need not to be in haste. We recomend to go to toilet once
because the journey will be 3 hours and they do not have a rest on the way.

(From the Terminal 2)
The arrival gate is on the 1st floor.
Please go out of the building from the right end exit.
Then you will find a station of Inter-Provincial Shuttle buses (Sheng3
ji4 ba1 shi4), and you can buy a ticket (70 yuan). You are asked to Tianjin
or Qinhuang dao (Qin2 huang2 dao3) or Tanggu (Tang2 gu1).
Please say "Tian1 jin1". They depart per 30 minutes from 7:45 to 23:15.
So you need not to be in haste. We recomend to go to toilet once because
the journey will be 3 hours and they do not have a rest on the way.
Please do not confuse with the buses to the center of Beijing (16 yuan). |

The bus arrives at Tianhuan (Tian1 huan2) in Tianjin.

The airport is on the east side of the city.
There are flights between Nagoya. For example, JL787 (11:55 arrival) and
JL788 (13:05 departure).
There are flights between Seoul. For example, KE805 (11:30 arrival), OZ327
(11:40 arrival), CA172 (13:30 arrival), OZ328 (12:40 departure), and KE806
(13:10 departure).
The arrival gate is on the 1st floor.
A taxi takes you to Nankai University for 40 minutes. It costs about 60
yuan.
There are two kinds buses such as shuttle buses (TBIA) and city buses (ji1
chang2 zhuan1 xian4). The former costs 10 yuan and the latter costs 3 yuan.
But the terminals of the latter are the places hard to find.
So we do not recommend the latter ways.
The former has two kinds buses such as to Tainjin Station and Nanjing Road
(Nan2 jing1 lu4). We recommend the buses to Tianjin Station. |
(Shuttle Bus: TBIA)
There are two destinations such as Tianjin Station and Nanjing Road.
They depart per 30 minutes from 6:00 to 19:30.
The former arrives at the station for 20 minutes, but a problem is that
the terminal is on the north side of the station (cf. (1)).
Then we recommend to ride a taxi from there.
The latter case is similar. |
(City bus)
There are 5 buses (no.1 ~ no.5). We feel that no.4 and no.5 are easier
to use.
The terminal of no.4 is near the crossroads of Tangshan Road (Tang2 shan1
dao4) and Shanxi Road (Shan1 xi1 lu4).
From there to the airport, it takes about 50 minutes by the bus.
It departs once per 1 hour from 6:00 to 20:30. |

| (4) From Tanggu port in Tianjin |
There are ships between Tanggu port (Tang2 gu1 gang3) in Tianjin (on the
east side) and Kobe (Shen2 hu4) in Japan, and between Tanggu port
and Inchon (Ren2 chuan1) port (on the east side of Seoul) in Korea.
The former ship is Enkyo-go (Yan4 jing1 hao4), and it takes about 50 hours
for one way.

| (5) From Beijing Station to Tianjin Station |

There are special trains (ji1 chang2 kuai2 gui3) from the airport to the
center of Beijing. They depart per 15 minutes.
The terminal station is Dongzhimen (Dong1 zhi2 men2). 25 yuan.
It takes about 35 minutes.
To Beijing Station, you should change to the 2nd line (blue), and ride
4 stations. To Beijing South Station, you should change to the 2nd line,
and go to Xuanwumen (Xuan1 wu3 men2). Then you change again the 4th line
(yellow), and ride 3 stations. 2 yuan.
You can buy a ticket from machines or station workers.
At Beijing Station, you can ride ordinary trains.
It takes 2 hours to Tianjin. 19 yuan. Since the time of departure is fixed,
you may wait for some hours.
At Beijing South Station, you can ride super express trains (Dong4 che1)
to Tianjin. It takes 30 minutes.
The special seat is 99 yuan, the 1st seat is 69 yuan, and the 2nd seat
is 58 yuan. They depart so many times, so you need not to wait.
At the stations, station workers reply to conversations in writing. |

| (6) Transportations in Tianjin |
You can use subways, city buses, taxis or rickshaws.
The bus fee is 1 yuan or 1.5 yuan or 2 yuan.
Only a city bus to the airport (cf. (3)), the fee is 3 yuan.
