It contains general information about the program,
how to get to our campus, accommodations, etc.

Please fill out the bottom part of this bulletin, marked ``REGISTRATION
FORM'', and return it to us by e-mail if you would like
to participate. A deadline for the registration is 12th November.
We plan to update this bulletin as we approach the
date of the workshop. This workshop is open to anyone.

Sincerely yours,

The Organizers

I. Scientific Program
--------------------
The workshop deals with string theory and quantum field theory
in the context of several exciting recent developments, which include
quantum theory of black holes, dualities between strings and gauge theories
and emergence of integrability, developments of matrix theory,
supersymmetry breaking in particle physics.
Each talk will be either 45 minutes or 40 minutes long.
(There will be some mini-talks as well as a poster session.)
We plan to publish the proceedings by World Scientific.

The speakers which have been confirmed so far are
L. Alvarez-Gaume, D. Berenstein, S.R. Das, J. de Boer, T. Eguchi,
F. Ferrari, M. Fukuma, K. Hori, Y. Imamura, N. Ishibashi, S. Iso, K. Ito,
A. Jevicki, H. Kanno, H. Kawai, S.V. Ketov, Y. Kitazawa, K.-M. Lee,
H. Liu, Y. Matsuo, A. Morozov, T. Nakatsu, H. Ooguri, T. Takayanagi,
A. A. Tseytlin, T. Yoneya.

II. Social Program
------------------
In the afternoon of December 9th (Sunday), we are organizing
a special excursion for our participants to Kobe by charter bus.
This excursion, which is recommended by the director of OCAMI,
will include visiting the museum of Hakutsuru Sake Brewing
(where you can taste fresh sake (Japanese rice-wine)) and
Disaster Reduction Museum, followed by the dinner
at the restaurant ``Rokko View Palace" on Mt. Rokko, from where
you may enjoy the ``million-dollar night view".
Transportation and a bag lunch will be provided.
At these events, the number of seats is limited. Please make clear
in the registration form if you would like to join or not.
The fee for the excursion is around 8,000 yen for a regular participant
or around 6,000 yen for a student, including a dinner.

III. Getting to Media Center
------------------------------------------------
Sugimoto Campus of Osaka City University is located at
the southern boundary of the Osaka city.
http://www.osaka-cu.ac.jp/e_information/access.html

The nearest station is Sugimoto-cho Station (JR Hanwa Line, a 5 minute walk).
Abiko Station (M27, Subway Midousuji Line, a 20 minutes walk) is another station nearby.

JR West (West Japan Railway Company):

Subway (Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau)

a) From Kansai International Airport

The nearest international airport is the Kansai International Airport (KIX),
which is located about 40 kilometers south of Osaka City.
http://www.kansai-airport.or.jp/en/index.asp

Take the JR line from the airport.
Access to Kansai Airport by JR line
http://www.westjr.co.jp/english/travel/kix/index.html

First take the train ``Kansai Airport Rapid Service"
from the Kansai-airport station to Sakai-shi Station
(a 35 minutes ride on JR Hanwa line).
Then transfer to a local train which goes to Tennoji.
After a 4 minute ride, get off at the second station, Sugimoto-cho Station.
The fare from the airport to the Sugimoto-cho is 860 yen.

The workshop takes place at the tenth floor of the Media Center,
which is the tallest building in the Sugimoto Campus, Osaka City University.
The Media Center is a 5 minute walk from the JR Sugimoto-cho station.

b) From other airports

Not every airline serves the Kansai International Airport.
If you plan to land at airports in other cities, such as Nagoya,
Fukuoka or Narita (Tokyo), take the Shinkansen train (Superexpress, JR line)
to Shin-Osaka. One way is to take the Subway Midousuji Line (red line)
from Shin-Osaka Station (M13) to Abiko Station (M27) (a 30 minutes ride, 310 yen).
Then take a taxi (which costs about 700 yen) or take a walk (a 20 minutes walk).

Another way is to take the Subway Midousuji Line (red line)
from Shin-Osaka Station (M13) to Tennoji Station (M23) (a 20 minutes ride, 270 yen).
Then take a local train of JR Hanwa Line from Tennoji to Sugimoto-cho station
(a 13 minutes ride, 170 yen).
As above, the Media Center is a 5 minutes walk from the Sugimoto-cho station.

IV. Accommodations
--------------------
Please make reservation by yourself.

V. Fee
--------
The registration fee for the workshop is 5,000 yen, which covers
the price of a copy of the proceedings. We ask every participant to register
and pay the total amount you figure below at Kansai Kenshu Center (KKC) in the evening of the 6th December
(the day before the beginning of the workshop).
The registration fee may be subject to change due to the currency exchange rate.

Kansai Kenshu Center (KKC)

KKC is a 10 minutes walk from the JR Sugimoto-cho Station.
See: Map around KKC:

Our financial resources are quite limited. Some financial
support is available to participants who do not have
any research grants, but this will only help to cover a fraction
of the local expenses. Please let us know if you need one.

VI. Meals
------------
For Friday and Monday, a few cafeterias are available on OCU campus.
A difficulty is anticipated in Saturday lunch. We plan to go to
Kansai Kenshu Center (KKC). We need to tell them the precise number
of people who take lunch there. Please indicate whether you purchase
a ticket for lunch (800 yen) or not.

VII. Other Information
----------------------
Credit cards associated with banks in foreign countries
(e.g. Citibank Visa) have very limited use in Japan and we cannot
recommend you only count on these cards.

Currently, 1 US dollar is a little above 115 yen.

The weather of Osaka in December is relatively mild and will be
above freezing.

VIII: Visas
----------

It depends on your nationality whether a visa is necessary or not in order to
enter Japan. Please check ``Exemption of Visas" at The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan:
http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/02.html

If you need a visa, please contact with one of the organizers, Y. Yasui.
