Osaka City University(OCU) is located in the southern part of the city, the district of Sumiyoshi,
adjacent to the neighbouring city Sakai. The access to the university is very easy. It can be
reached within one hour from the
Kansai international airport(KIX) as well as
Osaka international (Itami) airport(ITM) and from JR Shin-Osaka station of Shinkansen(superexpress). The conference venue is on
the top (10th) floor of the media center, the tall green building which is immediately seen
at the nearest JR station, Sugimoto-cho. There will be a direction board to the venue at the exit
of the station.
If you arrive at
KIX, which is located in the southern edge of Osaka prefecture,
go straight after passing the baggage claim area at the first(ground) floor.
Take the escalator at the end of the building to go up to the second floor and
continue walking in the same direction to the next building.
There are two railroad stations, Nankai and JR. You take
JR (
Hanwa line).
Buy a ticket to Sugimoto-cho (less than 1000 yen). You do not have to take "Haruka", the train with seat reservation required.
Just take "Kansai airport rapid service (Kankuu kaisoku)" bound for Kyobashi. This train goes to Tennoji, the one of the centers of the city which is nearest to OCU, and to JR Osaka station via the loop line . Only local trains stop at Sugimoto-cho, so you have to change train to a local one (usually blue colored) at Sakai-shi, the last station before Tennoji in the rapid transit. There are electric boards in platforms in general but English panel is shown only occasionally: you will have to be both patient and quick. Sugimoto-cho is the second station.
KIX does not serve for every airline. If you arrive at
Narita international airport(NRT), it is best that you arrange your flight
and airline such that you have a free connecting flight from Narita to Itami in the late afternoon of
the same day. After arriving at ITM either by JAL (north wing) or by ANA(south wing), just walk to the
shuttle bus area. Take a nonstop bus (
Osaka Airport Limousine) to "Abeno" (another name for Tennoji), which cost 620 yen.
In about 40 minutes, you reach a
place at Tennoji, which is actually across the road from Apa hotel.
Take a local train at JR Tennoji station to Sugimoto-cho.
If you cannot make the above arrangement at NRT, you go with JR line to buy a ticket throughout
to Osaka city (either Sugimoto or Tennoji, which is immaterial) together with seat reservations.
First take JR Narita express to Shinagawa to get connected
to Shinkansen. We recommend Shinagawa rather than Tokyo station for a smooth connection.
At Shinagawa, you take Shinkansen to west and get off at Shin-Osaka in two hours.
At Shin-Osaka, you change to the "regular" JR line to take any train to JR Osaka station.
At JR Osaka station, you move to platform no. 1 (
Osaka loop line, loop inner, counterclockwise) and take the Kansai airport rapid/Kishuji rapid transit
to get off at Tennoji. Change to a local one (
Hanwa line, platform no. 7 or 8) to get off at Sugimoto-cho.
If you carry a heavy luggage, we recommend you to take Haruka at Shin-Osaka (JR regular line) bound for KIX and to get off at Tennoji. You can pay the fee (about 500-1000 yen) for the seat reservation in the car.
An alternative choice at Shin-Osaka is to take a
subway (
Midosuji line, red line) from Shin-Osaka(M13) to
Tennoji(M23). If you do not mind an extra cost of a few hundred yen, this may be simpler to you.
The nearest subway station to OCU is Abiko(M27), which is four stops after Tennoji. In about 15
minutes walk from Abiko in the direction of south west, you reach the media center(gakujyutsu jyouhou center in Japanese).
Taxi costs about 600 yen.
